Mum Life: How do you start your day?

I could talk about this topic forever, but it’s something I believe in so passionately and I want others to realise that they are in complete control about how they feel each day.

Starting your day with just one positive thought has the ability to change the outcome of your whole day.

As a mum, how do you start your day?

Do you think “oh my god, it’s 5am and now I’m going to be so tired for the whole day and I haven’t had enough sleep and I just want it to be 8pm again so I can have a wine in peace”

or do you think “My beautiful baby is awake! Let’s snuggle in bed for a bit and enjoy some cuddles; there’s nothing better than cuddles to start the day. What fun are we going to have today?”

I get it. You’re tired. Every Mum in the world is. But if you choose to dwell on it and think in a negative way then that’s how you are going to feel for the rest of the day. You’ll feel slow and run down and you’ll end up putting your kids in front of the TV or iPad for a big chunk of the day and then you’ll get a case of the ‘mum guilts’ and so on goes the negative cycle.

But seriously put things into perspective. Do you know how incredibly lucky you are to be a mum?! It’s the best thing in the world. And those little children who look at you with nothing but love are not going to be little much longer. It can be so easy to get bogged down in negative feelings but it’s up to you if you choose to let them in or not. Just try this – tomorrow morning, no matter what the time is, wake up with a smile. Cuddle your kids in bed. Plan a fun outing together, take a million silly photos and create some amazing memories.

If you struggle to think positively sometimes, try a buying a gratitude journal and write down one thing every morning on wake up. This is a really good thing to get older children involved in too by encouraging them to journal the happy positive things in their lives. And also just fake it till you make it! By telling yourself you feel happy and alive and amazing, soon you really will do!

Being happy and thinking positively is your choice. What attitude you choose for the day is up to you and you only. You have the power over your feelings.
