just what is ‘new-age’?

Here at Run Wild, Beautiful Child we are all about the holistic view of a child. We love finding out about everything that is beneficial to a child’s mind, body and soul. Some of these things are pretty mainstream but some things are a little bit more alternative and therefore parents don’t have enough information about them to know how to include them in their every day lives.

To find out a little bit more about some deemed ‘new-age’ practices, we chatted to international psychic, clairvoyant, tarot reader, past life specialist and inspirational mama, Kimberly Stewart.

“Kimberly’s site thechannelling.co.nz, helps thousands of people a month find a bit of spiritual enlightenment, love and acceptance. Kimberly started The Channelling as a place for learning and spiritual growth, as well as a vent for herself to share her own knowledge. Kimberly’s aim was to help others develop their own psychic abilities and to teach others a little bit more about the ever-mysterious spirit realm. Coupled with her psychic, tarot and past life readings it has quickly become a haven for like-minded people seeking advice and guidance whenever needed, as well as the acceptance that everyone deserves. “

Here goes…

For those readers who aren’t familiar with things “new age-y”, can you tell us a bit about what you do?Β

I work as a psychic, tarot reader and past life reading and regression therapist. Everything I do is focused on helping people but through channels which others may not be accustomed to using. I write a lot and have two published books, Working with the Moon and The Souls of The Gifted Children. I also hold my live stream episodes of Tea with Kimberly every second Sunday where I offer free tarot and psychic readings for people. The past life work I do helps people find out how situations and habits from their current lives may be the result of a past life and I work on helping them heal these issues.

How did you get into this field / discover your gift?

I always had this gift but only realised that it was a tad unique when I reached my teens. I knew things about the future which others, including the adults around me, didn’t know. I finally put it to good use in my 20’s, helping friends and acquaintances with readings. Then in my 30’s I decided ‘hey, I should start sharing what I know’. And that’s how my website was born and it grew from there.

Can you tell us what Reiki is, and why a parent would get a reiki healing for their child?

Reiki is a natural healing modality which originated in Japan. It deals with ‘Chi’ or life force energy, and helps to clear blocked or negative energy in the body. It involves the ‘laying on of hands’ as we call it. So, it isn’t like a traditional massage but a treatment where the reiki healer places their hands on the area which needs healing and channels this life force energy into the recipient. The beauty of reiki is that it is absolutely safe to use on anyone and does zero harm to the recipient or giver. I have people bring their children to me for reiki healing for an variety of reasons. It can help with things such as getting children to sleep better, calm an anxious child, balance the energy in a child with ADHD, or any number of other reasons. It’s benefits are truly amazing.

Myself & Peyton are big crystal fans, and believe they are more than just pretty stones! What crystals would you recommend every child own and why?

Green calcite has always been a favourite for my son Lincoln as well as Rainbow Obsidian. For children I would recommend any crystals which focus on the heart chakra, so mainly any green or pink crystals such as Rose quartz or aquamarine. The reason for this is that children are still very much connected to the spirit world and need help to bring balance in their heart chakra to their Auric bodies and physical body. I would recommend that you keep high vibration crystals away from children for the time being as these can send their already high energy levels into overdrive!

Why would someone use tarot cards? When can you start involving children in the practice of tarot?

Tarot cards give a great overall outlook and insight on a situation. They aren’t the tool of the devil or anything like that but instead are regular playing cards which connect the reader to their intuition. I choose not to involve Lincoln in the practice, but only because my cards pick up a lot of energy, some bad some good, from doing so many readings, and I don’t want him to be exposed to some of the information that comes through. If you buy a new, clean deck though and keep it for personal use for you and your child then there’s no harm in letting them play with them as soon as they can talk. Once they can talk they can relay to you what they are seeing from them and you can guide them in the right direction.

Do you do readings for children, and in what situations do parents ask for readings?

I will answer the odd question about children but I never do a full reading at a parents request. The reason for this is that they have so much ahead of them that it would require me to write a whole book on a single child! I also believe that a child’s future needs to remain a mystery, as they are still innocent of the world and the hardships that it has to offer. I have never done a reading for my son.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I’m so glad that we are coming into a time where people are more open to the spirit world and my line of work. It’s a breath of fresh air to see people of all walks of life come to me and enquire about various new age modalities. The gifted children, that is the Indigo, Crystal, Rainbow and Star children, are also helping us to open our minds to this.

  • Quick Fire 5:
What’s your favourite thing about being a Mum?Β Being in love. I have never experienced love like that I have with my son Lincoln.
  • What’s your favourite way to spend “me-time”?Β Having a bath and writing. I need to cleanse my energy levels daily to keep doing what I do so a bath makes me feel really relaxed yet energised at the same time.
  • What does your dream day look like? A cup of tea followed by a big breakfast then spending the day at the beach with my family. Ending of course in a bath and another cup of tea!
  • What’s your favourite crystal and why? Moldavite. I’ve spent a lot of time with this crystal, learning to harness its energy which was extremely difficult to start with! Now we are best mates and it’s energy keeps me calm and open to others.
  • Which three people would you invite to breakfast? The Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa (if she would join us from the other side) and my son Lincoln of course

Thanks so much for hanging out with us Kimberly! We have definitely leant a lot and can’t wait to explore this area further.
