Introducing…Michelle Morpeth from Outdoorsy NZ
I’m the outdoorsy mum of Nate (three) and his future partner-in-crime who is due in February. We love exploring, and sharing what we find with others, in our online community Outdoorsy NZ.
What’s your favourite thing about being a Mum?
Seeing my son learning new stuff – I absolutely love that ‘a-ha’ moment when his eyes light up and he ‘gets it’! We spend a lot of time outside talking about the way the world works 😉 he makes me laugh and laugh. Watching his little personality develop is so cool!
What’s the biggest thing you’ve learnt about yourself as a Mum / how have you changed since you became a Mum?
I now understand what it really means to be vulnerable. And that’s a good thing.
What’s your favourite way to spend time with your children?
Playing outside, asking questions, attempting to provide answers! Blowing out the cobwebs, getting some exercise together, seeing beautiful things both big and small. Running through long grass and collapsing in giggles. Jumping out of trees and clambering around the rocks. Beachcombing. Our family loves sailing and spending time in the mountains, too.
What’s your top tip for keeping happy and positive as a Mum?
Making sure that I get time for myself as well. Fill your own cup. It’s a cliche for a reason.
How do you carve out some ‘me time’ into your life?
It’s actually my number one priority – it may sound selfish, but it’s the opposite, I think. ‘Me time’ spent going for a run or a hike or a bike ride or a swim means that I can be the best I can be for my family the rest of the time. If I don’t get it, we’re all stuffed!!
Aside from your family, what’s makes your truly happy in life?
A beautiful view and a glass of wine after an awesome trail run 🙂
